WILLIAM HORLICK, MILK HEIR, DIES; LEAVES MILLIONS
4th Death in Family in 30 Months.
Racine, Wis., April 1 [Special]– William Horlick Jr., bachelor philanthropist who shared with his brother, Alexander J., the wealth amassed by his father, the founder of the Horlick Malted Milk company, died of heart disease today at his home here. He was 64 years old.
It was the fourth death in the family in two and a half years to bring into the public eye the question of the Horlick fortune and the future of the nationally known bus ness. The probable disposition of the fortune, estimated at from 10 to 20 million dollars, tonight was the subject of conjecture among those who had followed the family’s financial history, revealed in court here during the last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • 1909: Married to Dr. John Streeter Sidley, surgeon. Plans are to move to Colorado to live. Dr. and Mrs. Sidley leave for six month trip in Europe. Maybelle is 32 years old, Dr. Sidley is 30 years old. <\/li>
  • 1913: Her son William Horlick Sidley is born <\/li>
  • 1927: W. Perkins Bull, Toronto attorney, visited the Sidley home at Racine. Maid to Mrs. Sidley testifies: “the rigid discipline of the household relaxed and events arose leading to the divorce …”<\/li>
  • 1928: Dr. John Sidley resigns as Horlick company secretary.<\/li>
  • 1928-1931: Mrs. Sidley has Dr. Sidley followed by private detectives for three years.<\/li>
  • 1931: Mrs. Sidley and Dr. Sidley divorce<\/li>
  • 1937: Mrs. Sidley moves into W. Perkins Bull’s apartment in Toronto<\/li>
