J. Mohr vacated his old quarters, that he has occupied for these many years, and moved into the adjoining new brick block that he has recently erected. The new building is the finest on State street, and is a substantial ornament to the west side. Fish Bros., a prominent wagonworks of the time, was one of our neighbors.\nIn 1906 ... Charles Mohr, employed at the wagonworks, began the idea of a Hotel Mohr. His son continued a successful hotel business when Charles Mohr died that same year.\nIn 1914 ... Fred C. Thomas, proprietor of the Topaz Cafe and Restaurant, Main Street, extended his services to hotel proportions.\nIn 1916 ... Thomas located at the Hotel Mohr, changed its name to the Bismarck. This became the hub of the entertainment world east of Chicago, engaging some of the best vaudeville performers of the time.\nIn 1920 ... The Bismarck had become the Hotel Thomas, under the ownership of Charlie Arndt and things quieted down after a half century of excitement.\nIn 1948 ... Stanley and Adelaide Ralus purchased the Hotel Thomas from the late Charlie Arndt and immediately began an extensive remodeling program.\nTODAY ... The Hotel Thomas Restaurant has the finest of modern equipment and can serve sandwiches or a full course dinner at Racine's most reasonable prices.
