One of the most brilliant weddings that has been celebrated in Racine for many years, was the marriage of Mr. Herbert E. Miles, Secretary of the Racine Wagon and Carriage Company, to Miss Flora Erskine, youngest daughter of Hon. M. B. Erskine, at 8 o’clock last evening, at the home of the bride’s parents, No. 1042 Main street.
No pains were spared in elaborately decorating the paternal mansion with a profusion of flowers. A large floral bell composed of white flowers and pink roses, was hung in the center of the main hall. A large parasol tastefully arranged out of the same flowers was lying on a table at the head of the first staircase. Flower balls were hung in different parts of the house, at the different stair landings, and vases of roses were scattered in every available place. The grates were banked with ferns and mosses, and the large bay windows were beautifully decorated with tropical plants. The main feature in the decorating was roses, not less than one thousand being used.
The ceremony was performed in the spacious parlor, and the wedding party was preceded by six little children, Helen Roberts, of Waupaca; Winifred Bright, of Appleton; Violet, Alfred, Harold and Ralph Erskine, who, hand in hand, led the way to the parlor, followed by the bridesmaids, Misses Mary Johnson and Kate Eager, and the groomsmen, Mr. Harry Miles, brother of the groom, of Appleton, and Mr. James Reeve, of Appleton; then the groom and mother of the bride, while escorted by her father came the bride who appeared lovely, arrayed in an elegant trained robe of pure white gros grain, silk, no sleeves, pointed neck, and folds hidden by the long tulle veil, festooned with orange blossoms. She carried a bouquet of white rosebuds. The groom wore the conventional black.
Miss Kate Eager, first bridesmaid, wore a lovely dress of cream white albatross, no ornaments save white rosebuds.
Miss Mary Johnson, second bridesmaid, a costume of cream white wool made decollette, which was becoming and charming in its simplicity.
Mrs. M. B. Erskine, mother of the bride, wore an elegant robe of satin, handsomely trimmed with jet and point lace, diamond jewelry.
Mrs. Miles, mother of the groom, wore a handsome costume of London smoke silk, point duchesse lace and cameos.
The ushers were Mr. Philo Hoy, and Dr. M. Marcuse of Chicago. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Dr. Eli Corwin, of the First Presbyterian church, and the wedding party included the following persons:
Mrs. Harriet Miles (mother of groom), Miss Mary Roberts, Appleton, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. E. N. Roberts and family, Mr. and Mrs. C. E.
