Ken Merrill mentioned that his great grandmother, Minnie Morgenson, wrote social and visits columns for towns in Racine County for many years. I looked her up, and she sounds like she was an amazing person.

Veteran Writer Of News Dead

Mrs. Minnie Morgenson

Mrs. Minnie Morgenson, 73, oldest county correspondent for the Journal-Times in point of years of service, with nearly half a century behind her of writing the news of Raymond Center, died at St. Luke’s hospital Wednesday.

Mrs. Morgenson enjoyed a wide circle of friends through nearly 50 years of county correspondence work, through her membership in the Raymond Congregational church and its Ladies’ Aid, as an officer and member of Union Grove chapter of Eastern Star, and as a director for 10 years of the school board of District 5, town of Raymond. For many years she was active in the American Legion auxiliary and Racine county chapter, American War Mothers, and she was also a member of the Good Cheer club, a Raymond Center community organization.

Active in Red Cross.

Deeply interested in Red Cross work in two wars, Mrs. Morgenson opened her home for Red Cross work in World War I and had charge of sewing and knitting. In World War II she again headed the Red Cross.

The former Minnie Jensen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Soren Jensen, was born Oct. 4, 1870, in Denmark, and came to America with her parents when 3½ years old, residing in Yorkville and Raymond townships ever since. On Oct. 25, 1888, she became the bride of Thomas Morgenson Sr., in a ceremony performed at her home in Yorkville, and since that time she and Mr. Morgenson have lived in a home built for them at Raymond Center—a home in which they celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary last year.

Husband Survives.

In Raymond Center, Mr. Morgenson, who survives, was engaged in the farm implement business, continuing until a few years ago when he retired and turned over the business to his son. Survivors in addition to Mr. Morgenson are one daughter, Mrs. Edith Paap, Indianapolis, Ind.; one son, Thomas Morgenson Jr., Franksville; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Louis Jensen of Racine and James L. Jensen of Whitney, Neb. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p. m. in Hanson’s chapel, followed by burial in Mound cemetery. Rev. Lowell Reykdal of the Yorkville church will officiate. Friends may call at the chapel Sunday afternoon and evening.
