Wealthy of Racine, Wisconsin

Haglin-Smith Wedding, January 28, 1880
The marriage of Mr. Charles F. Haglin, of Minneapolis, and Miss Emma R. Smith, of this city, was celebrated last Thursday afternoon at half-past two o'clock at the residence of the bride's parents on Chippewa street. The guests were confined to relatives and a few intimate friends. Rev. S. N. Griffith of the First Methodist church officiated. After the ceremony was performed the entire company sat down to a well supplied table. Mr. and Mrs. Haglin will reside in Minneapolis.
The presents on this occasion were numerous and costly. Among those displayed were: Check for $1000 from father of bride, (a very handsome gift; it has been the custom of Mr. Smith to give a similar sum to each of his daughters as a wedding gift. For the fourth time he has now bestowed the check.) Elaborate gold watch and chain, from groom; elegant silver tea set, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Ticknor, O. W. and Chas B. I was searching for more information about W. H. Kranz and I ran across this mention in an 1880 wedding notice. In this case, all the gifts from guest are listed. Sometimes I can’t help but be struck by the wealth and the wealthy in Racine. The $1000 check from the father of the bride is equivalent to $33,074 in 2026 dollars.
