Hotel Mohr, 1029 State Street

New West Side Hotel.
Today C. J. Mohr vacated his old quarters, that he has occupied for these many years, and moved into the adjoining new brick block that he has recently erected. The new building is the finest on State street, and is a substantial ornament to the west side. It is a three story and basement, fitted up with all the modern improvements. "Hotel Mohr" will be dedicated tonight with a grand opening, and the proprietors promise a feast fit for a king to all their old neighbors and west side friends.

Time was when Racine was a meeting place of sports enthusiasts, entertainers, budding young businesses and relatives from the Old Country ... the Hotel Thomas, under various names, remembers them well!
We Can REMEMBER WHEN ...
In 1872 ... Fish Bros., a prominent wagonworks of the time, was one of our neighbors.
In 1906 ... Charles Mohr, employed at the wagonworks, began the idea of a Hotel Mohr. His son continued a successful hotel business when Charles Mohr died that same year.
In 1914 ... Fred C. Thomas, proprietor of the Topaz Cafe and Restaurant, Main Street, extended his services to hotel proportions.
In 1916 ... Thomas located at the Hotel Mohr, changed its name to the Bismarck. This became the hub of the entertainment world east of Chicago, engaging some of the best vaudeville performers of the time.
In 1920 ... The Bismarck had become the Hotel Thomas, under the ownership of Charlie Arndt and things quieted down after a half century of excitement.
In 1948 ... Stanley and Adelaide Ralus purchased the Hotel Thomas from the late Charlie Arndt and immediately began an extensive remodeling program.
TODAY ... The Hotel Thomas Restaurant has the finest of modern equipment and can serve sandwiches or a full course dinner at Racine's most reasonable prices. The bar has done much to keep the old world atmosphere.
